Ride Em Cowboys ... Across Wyoming

We drove from Colorado Springs north thru Denver on I-25 all the way to Cheyenne, Wyoming (home of one of my favorite sports broadcasters Curt Gowdy).

After having lunch and visiting the state capital, we headed west on I-80 to Laramie (University of Wyoming) then stopped for the night in Rawlins.

The weather was good until we got near Rawlins, then it turned cold and a little snowy.

A buffalo statue lets you know the Wyoming line is near.

Most of the eastern Wyoming landscape was a lot like the pic above ... as you head west, the state gets more mountainous and rugged (and cold).

This monument to Abraham Lincoln was visible for miles (with little else) on I-80 heading toward Laramie.

U of Wyoming and Laramie were both a bit less than I expected ... smaller and not particularly pretty or clean. The Cowboy mascot is cool though.

Colorado Springs Last Day

Our last day in Colorado Springs was Mother's Day and the weather was beautiful.

After a Saturday night spent enjoying the nice hotel pool and hot tub, we visited the US Olympic Training Center on the way out of town.

Colorado Springs Post 2

On Saturday, May 8 ... Susan went solo to the top of Pikes Peak!

We had all planned to go, but no trains had been going to the top due to heavy snow (which meant the train would go about 3/4 way then back down with no rest room stop for about 3 hours or so ... we kind of didn't want to risk that), so we just got Susan a ticket for a Mother's Day present.

When we got there that afternoon, the track had been cleared and Sue got the treat of going all the way to the summit of the mountain ... where it was 21 degrees with a wind chill of 4 ... dipping to below zero with wind gusts.

This is point (around 12k feet) where all trains had been stopping until this afternoon train. When they told us it would go to the top we tried to buy two more tickets but the train was sold out.
