Salt Lake and Promontory Point

We enjoyed Salt Lake City so much (and were pretty worn out) that we decided to stay an extra night before heading out.

On that extra day we drove out to the Great Salt Lake, then on our way out of town stopped by Promontory Point (Utah) on the way to Idaho.

Click on any pic to enlarge ... enjoy!

This is not snow ... but salt ... along the great Salt Lake.

Near Morton's Salt plant (above)

An extra day and night to shoot hoops and enjoy the great pool.

Nice view from hotel

We drove about an hour out of the way to visit Promontory Point ... where the first intercontinental railroad connected in 1869. We loved it ... it was so desolate that we stood out taking these pictures and laughing for a long time with no traffic (then a car zoomed out of nowhere at about 100 mph).

This site probably hasn't changed a whole lot since 1869

Had a great video talking about building the tracks (about a 5 year process) ... one group leaving from Sacramento and the other from Omaha, Nebraska (taking about the same path we took to get here).

Wind was very cold!

Next post ... onto Idaho for a night in Pocatello ... then a stop at scenic Idaho Falls as we head for Wyoming and Yellowstone.
