West Yellowstone

After driving through Yellowstone from the south entrance, we exited into Montana through the west gate.

When you leave the park, you immediately enter the small town of West Yellowstone, MT. The town has a real old west feel, very rustic with only a few streets.

We stayed at a Holiday Inn, and that evening and the next morning visited a bear and wolf recovery center (they keep live bears and wolves that have been captured but for some reason are deemed unfit to be put back into the wilderness). There were seven grizzlies (only two at a time allowed out), and two wolfpacks. Very interesting and educational. We also saw an IMAX film about Yellowstone National Park.

By noon we were back in Yellowstone Park for a full day visit on the way to our cabin at Old Faithful. Here are some pics of West Yellowstone, and I'll get the Old Faithful ones up soon.

Click on any pic to enlarge ... hope you enjoy them!

Outside the Bear and Wolf center ... town of West Yellowstone (outside the park).

Looking for a wolf or bear! (It was outside their fences : )

Saw a film on wolves ... tracking down an elk and taking it down ... doing the same to a coyote. Didn't like the wolves.

These two did like them.

Always time for a playground.

Holiday Inn - West Yellowstone, Montana.

The bear should be afraid. Very afraid.

Coming soon - Old Faithful, more Yellowstone (including a couple bears), then on through the great state of Montana with a terrific stop at Little Big Horn to examine Custer's Last Stand.
